After lining up along Convention Center Boulevard, the floats for the superkrewe are headed to the start of the Uptown parade route with anticipation and excitement running high. The parade is scheduled to roll at 5:15 p.m.
Under sunny skies and mild weather, parade-goers and krewe members alike are happy about the world’s greatest party and its monarch for the night, Drew Brees.
“Riding in Bacchus is like knowing how a rock-n-roll band feels,” said krewe member Jim Bercaw. “Having Drew Brees as king will be like knowing how the Rolling Stones feel.”
Kathy Ashworth, whose husband and son are also in the krewe, said the crowd is the most excited she’s ever seen. “It’s electric,” Ashworth said. “They’re just energized. They’re excited that the Saints won.”
Riding the wave of Saintsmania that has consumed the city long before the team took the title of Super Bowl XLIV champs, krewe members agreed that tonight’s crowd will probably be the biggest they’ve ever seen because of the team.
“He’s probably the most popular guy in New Orelans history,” krewe member Sean Smith said of Brees.
Though most krewe members have not spoken to Brees, many are hoping to catch a glimpse of him at the ball tonight.
“We’ve got our fingers crossed,” said Amanda Bombard, whose father is in the krewe.
